Support
Sports Timer is a personal project, made in evenings and weekends. Mail gets read and bugs do get fixed, but a reply can take a few days.
The easiest way: from inside the app
Open Settings → Feedback. There are two buttons: Mail a bug and Mail a new idea. Both open your own e-mail program with the address and subject already filled in, so nothing is sent until you press send yourself.
A bug report attaches a copy of your timer settings, because nine times out of ten that is what is needed to reproduce the problem. It contains your workouts and preferences and no personal data, and you can delete the attachment before sending if you would rather not include it.
Reporting a bug
Most reports take one round trip to sort out. These four things usually avoid that:
| Tell me | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Your phone or tablet, and the Android version | A lot of behaviour differs per manufacturer, especially around the system bars and file access. |
| The app version | Under Settings → View info. It says whether you have the fix already. |
| What you did, step by step | "It crashes" is hard to chase. "Edit, add a block, change it to Laps, press back" is not. |
| What you expected instead | Sometimes it turns out to work as designed, and then the answer is a better explanation on this site. |
A screenshot or a short video of the screen helps more than a paragraph of description, and the settings attachment from the in-app bug button covers the rest.
Suggesting something
Ideas are welcome, and the useful ones are almost always phrased as a problem rather than a solution: what were you trying to do in the room, and where did the app get in the way? That is how the app got laps inside laps, and scheduled start.
Fair warning: this is a spare-time project, so a big idea can sit for a long while before it arrives. Small things that fix an obvious annoyance tend to jump the queue.
Things that are not bugs
- The bar with the three buttons is white. Its colour comes from the phone; an app cannot paint it. Dark mode or gesture navigation changes that. The app already hides it while a workout runs.
- A downloaded .tmr file is invisible in the app. The app has no access to your storage on purpose. Tap the file from your Files app or download list instead and choose Sports Timer. See the FAQ.
- The quick start page appears again. It shows the first couple of times you open the app and then stops.
Rating and reviews
A rating in the Play Store genuinely helps a small app be found at all. If something is wrong, though, mail first: a review is a bad place to debug, and most problems turn out to be fixable in an evening.
Privacy of what you send
Mail you send is used to answer you and to fix the app, and for nothing else. It is not shared, not added to any list, and there is no list to add it to. The privacy policy says the same in more detail.
